Nottingham Forest hierarchy confident money won’t be issue in pursuit of top summer target

Millwall talisman Jed Wallace is top of Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper’s summer transfer list with the club hierarchy set to back him and confident money won’t be an issue in their pursuit of the winger, according to a report from The Sun.

Wallace’s contract is set to expire in the summer and there have been no indications that he will agree new terms at The Den meaning he’ll be available on a free transfer ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Forest had multiple bids rejected for the 27-year-old by Millwall in January but it seems they will return for him at the end of the season.

The Sun has reported that Cooper wants to sign a goalscoring winger and that Wallace is top of his list of targets.

The Forest boss is said to have been offered a string of players by agents but remains keen on the Lions attacker – though the club are also keeping tabs on Blackpool’s Josh Bowler.

It is understood that the City Ground outfit’s owners are set to back the manager during the summer window and are confident that money won’t be an issue in the pursuit of Wallace.

The Verdict

Forest pushed hard for Wallace in the winter window so it’s no surprise that he remains top of their list of targets ahead of the summer.

As he’ll be a free agent, there is likely to be added competition for the 27-year-old but joining Cooper’s project at the City Ground is an appealing proposition right now.

Potential Premier League interest could derail the Reds’ pursuit of the winger but it seems the East Midlands club are willing to splash the cash to bring him to the club when his Millwall contract expires.

His form over the past few seasons, which has seen him score 25 times and provide 25 assists since the start of 2019/20, illustrates why.
