Nottingham Forest fans react after Alan Shearer issues blunt Liverpool penalty verdict

Nottingham Forest fans have been having their say after Alan Shearer said the Reds should not have been awarded a penalty in their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Liverpool.

Debate raged after Ryan Yates appeared to be fouled by goalkeeper Alisson Becker late on at the City Ground but after a VAR check, Forest's appeals fell on deaf ears.

Many neutrals watching the game felt Forest were hard done by, but it was deemed by referee Craig Pawson that there was not enough contact.

Former England striker and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer responded to footage of the incident and Tweeted 'no' when a video clip on Twitter asked whether it was a spot-kick.

"In the ground in the Trent End I thought it was a pen, but seeing it when I got home it wasn’t. Maybe it’s me being biased but I thought any 50/50 decision always seemed to go their way. They were a class act but we held our own and with 60% of our defence injured."

"It wasn’t a penalty and the VAR said he was onside. We had some chances and didn’t take them but we did brilliantly in the cup this year beating Arsenal and Leicester and we are doing well in the league so I have no regrets or sour grapes."

"It was too soft for a penalty, I genuinely thought it was a penalty all day til I saw it slowed down, it was never a penalty yates looked for it we can’t deny that."

"As much as I obviously wanted it to be a penalty I must admit that I thought that the Referee and VAR got this one right."
