Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper answers big Jack Colback question after stunning goal

Head coach Steve Cooper hailed a goal of the season contender as Nottingham Forest thumped West Bromwich Albion 4-0 at the City Ground.

Jack Colback netted a sensational strike in the first half, scoring from an impossible angle with his left boot. But it was the fourth goal which pleased the Reds boss most, with Sam Surridge finishing off a lovely team move.

A Brennan Johnson penalty and a Ryan Yates header had set Forest on their way against the 10-man Baggies. And it was the perfect response to Friday’s defeat at Luton Town as Cooper’s side returned to winning ways.

There was some debate around whether Colback had meant to go for goal with his outrageous first-time shot. However, Cooper was in no doubt about the midfielder's intentions.

“He’s said he meant it. Jack isn’t one to crave any extra praise. He’s a bit of a throwback on that front, so I’m not arguing with him,” he said.

“Certainly this season, here, it’s one of the best. Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) scored a great one at Birmingham. Djed Spence’s first goal against QPR was good.

“I love the team goals, me. I’d love to know how many passes there were before the fourth goal.

“We just played really well tonight. We were good for it, tonight. For a 4-0 scoreline you have to do a lot of things really well in the game, and I think we did.

“West Brom started a little bit brighter than us, in the first few minutes. But after that, we really took control.

“We forced them into the 10 men. We forced them into 1-0, 2-0. Even after that, we were really controlling the game and got the third.

“Jack said he tried it. Brilliant. He was excellent tonight, he deserved man of the match.
