Nottingham Forest £20m transfer thrown into doubt after late twist

Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to be rivalled by Crystal Palace in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

The England under-21 international is in demand this summer after impressing on loan at Sheffield United as part of their Championship promotion push last season. The Reds, who ended their hopes in the play-off semi-finals, are understood to be keen on acquiring the player ahead of their Premier League return

Forest face competition to secure his signature, though, with Wolves said to be 'hopeful' and expectant of keeping the youngster at Molineux for the 2022/23 season and have offered a new contract which remains unsigned. Southampton have also been linked with a transfer for the 22-year-old.

Now a third Premier League club are reportedly entering the running as Crystal Palace are 'plotting a late move' for the player, according to The Sun's Alan Nixon. Patrick Vieira's side are said to be planning on adding another significant outlay if they are to beat out opposition to land Gibbs-White.

The South London side have already agreed on a potential £22 million fee to sign Mali midfielder Cheick Doucoure from Lens and Malcolm Ebiowei from Derby County for a still-to-be-determined compensation fee. It has been suggested that Wolves want £20 million for the starlet to leave this summer, with only a 'substantial fee' set to test their resolve.

The Reds still have the Steve Cooper factor in their favour, though. Cooper had Gibbs-White on loan during his previous stint at Swansea City and also coached the player as a teenager with England's World Cup-winning under-17s side.
