‘Not good’ - Lisandro Martinez gives honest Manchester United injury verdict
Lisandro Martinez has admitted that Manchester United endured a poor campaign last season amid a spate of injury problems, a number of which he suffered himself.
The defender, who only played 14 times, says he has learned a lot from his three separate setbacks and insists he feels “excellent” ahead of Argentina’s Copa America campaign this summer, coming back to fitness just in time.
United topped the list of most injuries suffered last term with 45 incidents of setbacks, not including several suffered during pre-season. Martinez played just six times at the start of the campaign before suffering a recurrence of a metatarsal injury.

The centre-back had fractured the foot bone during a Europa League tie against Sevilla in April 2023 but managed to return in time for pre-season. However, he required a second round of surgery towards the end of September due to the re-emergence of the issue.
It sidelined him until January, by which time United were out of the Champions League and League Cup. He only managed to play four matches before suffering a freak knock in February’s 3-0 win over West Ham.
Hammers defender Vladimir Coufal landed awkwardly on the knee of Martinez following a challenge, causing damage that would keep the 26-year-old out until late March. It was deemed he had been brought back too son when he sustained a further calf injury following his return.
Martinez went on to only play the final two Premier League games of the season as United recorded their worst ever finish, but he did play 73 minutes of the FA Cup final win over
