Norway boss Sjogren resigns after disastrous Euros
Head coach Martin Sjogren has resigned after Norway failed to reach the quarter-finals at Euro 2022.
Eight days after the Norwegians were trounced 8-0 by hosts England on their way to a third-place finish in Group A, Sjogren and assistant Anders Jacobson, who last year signed contract extensions until 2023, have stood down.
The head coach told the Norwegian Football Federation's official website: "Having the opportunity to lead Norway's national team for five-and-a-half years, including three championships, has been a special time in my coaching career and I take with me many good and developing experiences from my time in Norway.
"The conditions before this championship were clear and we had high ambitions. When the results did not match expectations, it was a natural solution that we now go our separate ways."
Sjogren and Jacobson took over in January 2017 and guided Norway to the World Cup quarter-finals in 2019, although their disappointing showing this summer prompted the NFF to opt for change.
Football president Lise Klaveness said: "We have had good and respectful conversations after Friday's exit and each goes ours (separate ways) as friends.
"Although we are confident that this is the right decision for Norway's team now, it is with sadness and great respect that we now end the collaboration with Martin and Anders."
