Northampton await double fitness news ahead of Newport clash

Northampton Town manager Jon Brady has said he will give Aaron McGowan and Jack Sowerby every opportunity as the pair look to return to fitness ahead of tonight’s clash against Newport County.

Aaron McGowan was subbed off in their win against hamstring Walsall at the weekend with a hamstring injury while Sowerby was also subbed off with a knock.

The 47-year-old manager has confirmed they are awaiting the results of McGowan’s scan and rested Sowerby yesterday in order to see if he’ll be fit for tonight.

Speaking to ntfc.co.uk on McGowan’s injury he said: “We will have to see how it is but he came off quickly after it happened.”

Northampton and Newport County face off against each other tonight in a clash between fourth versus fifth as the two clubs look to break into the three automatic spots.

Level on points with high-flying Sutton United, Northampton came away from the midlands with all three points courtesy of a Louis George Appere goal early in the first half to match The U’s points tally who dropped points to Bristol Rovers.

McGowan and Sowerby have featured predominantly, this season for The Cobblers making 28 and 22 appearances in all competitions respectively.

Northampton signed McGowan from Kilmarnock in the summer, the right back has contributed to a goal and two assists so far at his new club from right-back, becoming a key figure for Jon Brady’s side as they look to push for promotion.

The 25-year-old’s injury he sustained at the Bescot Stadium could rule him out of tonight’s important game at Sixfields meaning Northampton could be without their main right-back.
