West Ham dealt late fitness concern ahead of Leicester clash, Moyes will be sweating - opinion

West Ham United have been dealt a late fitness concern regarding Arthur Masuaku ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, David Moyes revealed that the left-back could once again be sidelined for the Hammers’ upcoming clash against Leicester City due to the defender having a floating bone in his knee.

The 58-year-old added that the DR Congo international might be able to get through the fixture with a pain-reducing injection, although the Irons boss also suggested that the 28-year-old may require surgery – something which would presumably keep Masuaku sidelined for a considerable portion of the campaign.

Speaking about the left-back’s injury, Moyes said: “We were not sure whether he was going to need an operation. We’re going to see if we can get through with an injection at the moment and see how it goes. He’s got a bit of floating bone in his knee which we’re managing so we’ll have to find out how he goes in the coming weeks and how he is.”

While Masuaku is by no means the first-choice left-back at the London Stadium, the defender’s potential unavailability on Sunday will nevertheless leave Moyes sweating.

Indeed, Aaron Cresswell has only returned quite recently from his own spell on the sidelines, so should the 32-year-old pick up a fresh knock, or even just require a rest from the Irons’ hectic schedule, the manager will be left with no senior options on the left-hand side of his backline if Masuaku is indeed ruled out.
