'Nonsense' - Jamie Carragher blasts interim Man United manager Ralf Rangnick's new role

Jamie Carragher has branded Ralf Rangnick’s plans to hold roles at both Manchester United and the Austria national team coach as “nonsense.”

The German was named as Austria’s new head coach last week. But he still plans to hold a development role ‘upstairs’ at Old Trafford after the end of the season.

Many have criticised Rangnick for not progressing with United and failing to earn a top four finish. Rio Ferdinand even believes he has made the team worse.

Rangnick’s role in the United hierarchy is yet to be outlined, but it looks as though he will hold both jobs from the summer onwards. This has not gone down well with Carragher.

He has blasted the proposals while assessing his time as United interim boss on Sky Sports. He said: “That’s (United) not a Rangnick team. He’s not a manager, he’s a Director of Football.

“I don’t get how you can be manager of Austria and work for Man United. That’s wrong. The manager of Austria shouldn’t be working for United. It’s one or the other. That’s nonsense.”
