NOGIG: ExxonMobil beat ARADEL to brighten chances of qualification
ExxonMobil rallied to a vital 1-0 victory over ARADEL in the ongoing preliminaries of the football event of the 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games at the Shell Residential Area pitch, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The victory brightened their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the event which will observe a match-free day today.
Hostilities will resume tomorrow with group winners and runners up moving to the next stage.
Meanwhile, first vice chairman of the games’ Organising Committee, Chido Okoli, has said that the finals of the competition, slated for Abuja from April 21, will feature 12 other sports including basketball, golf, table tennis andsquash, among others.
“We are holding the preliminaries of the football event now in Port Harcourt because we have many teams and a one-week programme cannot accommodate the many matches they are to play before the finalists will emerge. So, by the time we conclude these preliminaries, only finalists and losers’ finalists will feature in Abuja during the Games proper,” he said.
