No work was being done on pylon at time man was electrocuted to death

No work was being done on a pylon which electrocuted a man to death, the Manchester Evening News understands.

The tragic incident happened next to the M60 slip road, near to Princess Parkway, just after 5.30pm last night (Wednesday). The man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be passed to the coroner.

The M.E.N understands that no works were being carried out on the pylon at the time of the incident. A huge emergency services response was scrambled to the scene last night, with a cordon put in place around the wooded area at the foot of the pylon.

Forensic officers were spotted carrying out investigation work within the cordon. Pictures showed a line of police vehicles along the southbound carriageway as the road was closed off.

Onlookers said that they heard a 'loud bang' and saw a 'huge explosion' from the top of the pylon. One witness, who saw the incident when driving along the M60 slip road, rushed down to help the victim, who he said had fallen into the woods below. He said he tried to help before emergency services arrived at the scene.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a person electrocuted by a pylon in close proximity to the M60, near to Princess Parkway, just after 5.30pm last night (16 March 2022).

"Emergency services attended and sadly a male was pronounced dead at the scene. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for HM Coroner."

A spokesperson for National Grid said: "We received reports of a person having fallen from a pylon in the Didsbury area
