No Limit, Smashers win third Edo Cricket Super Four crowns

No Limit Cricket Club, at the weekend, upset defending champions, U-17 Cricket Club, to win the third Edo State Cricket League.

Also victorious were Smashers, who defeated Delta Force to win the women version.

At the final match watched by top cricket stakeholders, including president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata and National Coach/High Performance Manager, Steve Tikolo, had all the trappings of grand event.

Thrilled by the quality of play displayed by the teams, Akpata said the performances would earn some of the players call up to the soon to be convened national camp.

“The quality of the matches in this Super Four has been revealing. I am sure the technical team of the national teams are here and taking notes of some exceptional talents that might get in,” he said.

Captain of the No Limit Cricket Club, Afani Abdulhamid, said it was a pleasure to be crowned winners, especially at the expense of the defending champions, U-17 Cricket Club.

“When we left the first inning with 88 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, it seemed we had locked ourselves in a tight corner. We had to dig in deep within us to produce the 18.2 all out at 68 runs that gave us the victory,” he said.

In the South South Women League Super Four playoff that ran simultaneously with the men’s game, Smashers of Akwa Ibom dismissed Delta Force from Asaba by 53 runs to win the title.

UNIBEN Cricket Club picked the third place in the Edo Cricket League by beating Dolphin Cricket Club.

The matches were held at the Edo Boys High School’s High Performance Centre and Iyoba College, both in Benin, Edo State
