"No good" - Lisandro Martinez opens up on nightmare Manchester United start and explains turnaround

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has explained how Erik ten Hag and the players managed to turn things around after losing their opening two Premier League games.

As the full-time whistle blew at Brentford, even the most optimistic of United supporter would not have foreseen this turnaround. Four successive wins over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal has seen Ten Hag's side pick up 12 points and surge up the table.

The Dutchman is starting to stamp his authority on the English game, as he and his new signings settle into life at Old Trafford. It was always going to take time to gel and click under Ten Hag, as the Brighton and Brentford defeats showed, yet the reaction to the two losses have given supporters a new found belief in the club.

Martinez sat down with United's in-house media to discuss the catalyst for the change in fortunes under Ten Hag, as the defender revealed what was said in the wake of the sobering 4-0 defeat to kick-start their impressive Premier League run.

He said: "In the beginning it was no good, it was not what we wanted. But we changed directly after Brentford. We changed the mentality, we changed the spirit and then we did an amazing job against Liverpool and then we keep going and you can see now every game the team is ready, is ready to fight - the connection with each other is incredible.

"I think we did a fantastic job against Liverpool and Arsenal. But this is Manchester United, no? When the teams come to play in our stadium, they have to feel it was not easy for them. So yes, now we feel very well about it."
