‘No emotion’ - Roy Keane slams ‘robotic’ Manchester United team

Roy Keane has questioned the culture within the current Manchester United set-up following their 4-0 thumping at the hands of Liverpool.

The team looked second best at Anfield all game, coming away having had just 28 per cent of the possession and only being able to muster one shot on target. It leaves United with vaporising hopes of a top four finish in what is now their worst ever points return after 33 Premier League matches (54).

Keane was dismayed with what he saw on the pitch from his former club. The Irishman led the club to seven league titles, one of them coming in the famous 1998/99 Treble-winning season.

He explained how the current United squad is miles away from those from previous years in many aspects. Speaking on Sky Sports, the 50-year-old said: “What Manchester United have always had, in my experience at the club, was brilliant characters, brilliant men, people you want to work with, people you would be in the trenches with.

“Bryan Robson, (Steve) Brucey, (Paul) Ince, (David) Beckham, (Ryan) Giggsy all these lads, brilliant lads. We didn’t win every week, but before every game we asked ourselves, are we going to give everything that we have for this club?

“And obviously, the answer was yes because of the football club. There is no soul with this team, they are robotic.”

He added: “There is no emotion. You talk about the pride of Manchester United and the word robotic is the word I’m going to start using.

“What is going on at the training ground? What is the coaching, what is the culture, who is helping these young lads along? I have never heard about so many players wanting to leave Manchester United.”
