Nnamdi Ofoborh Rangers release rumours dismissed after cryptic Instagram post sparked exit speculation

Nnamdi Ofoborh remains a Rangers player despite online rumours claiming he’s been released.

The forgotten Ibrox star sent tongues wagging late on Sunday night after posting a cryptic social media post hinting at “mistreatment” during his two-year lay-off. The former Bournemouth midfielder joined Gers in the summer of 2021 but has yet to kick a single ball for the Light Blues after club docs uncovered a heart issue shortly after his move to Glasgow.

Since then, the Ibrox club’s medical department have not been involved in leading his treatment, with Ofoborh instead travelling to top cardiac specialists in the UK and Europe for guidance on how to kick-start his career. Ofoborh - who has two years left on his Ibrox deal - has remained largely silent on his devastating predicament for much of the time since his initial diagnosis but on Sunday night he let slip with a glimpse into his frustrations.

Sharing an update on his Instagram story, the 23-year-old posted three images of himself in hospital. He captioned one: "Two years, two operations, hundreds of appointments."

And another read: "Silent on the situation so I look like the bad guy, all the mistreatment of the last two years will come out.”

The stories were later removed but before that eagle-eyed supporters spotted he was no longer following the official Gers account and had been removed from a private page reserved for first-team players and coaches. That set off unfounded speculation that Ofoborh was no-longer on the Ibrox payroll.
