Nintendo fans spot 'secret' button on new Switch 2 console

The guess-work is over as Nintendo finally lifts the curtain on its latest hardware iteration - the Switch 2. Featuring a bigger display and a few advancements in the controllers and kickstand, it looks set to ring in a new era of Nintendo.

While the console looks fairly similar to what came before, fans are picking the reveal trailer apart and have already spotted a sneaky addition that's stumped us all. On the right controller, there seems to be a new button that wasn't on the original console, and we have no idea what it does.

In leaks prior to the Switch 2's official reveal, the internet collectively called this new button the 'C' button, as this appeared on unofficial renders from accessory manufacturers. However, the official reveal trailer of the Switch 2 doesn't appear to show the letter C on the button, despite the button clearly visible.

What's baffling gamers is that it's in an awkward spot on the edge of the controller that slots into the console. To add fuel to the fire, it's only present on the right controller and not the left one, meaning it can't be something that's essential for both players in a co-op situation.

The current working theory is that it might have something to do with online chat functionality - a button that you need to press once and then forget about it for a while. Nintendo hasn't previously offered built-in chat options in its consoles, requiring players to use an app on their phone to chat online.

Other circulating speculation is that the right JoyCon might have some sort of mouse functionality and that this mysterious button has something to do with it. This is fuelled by the depiction of the right JoyCon slotting into an attachment and then scurrying around a flat surface, much
