Nine-try Ireland put Scots to sword in Grand Slam style

Ireland secured their third Under-20 Six Nations Grand Slam with an emphatic 59-5 win over Scotland at Musgrave Park, Cork.

Richie Murphy's side ran in no less than nine tries in a dominant display that kept the visitors scoreless for almost the entire game.

It took just five minutes for Ireland to find the Scottish tryline when Jack Boyle barged his way over.

Charlie Tector's cultured right boot would be a feature of Ireland's play and he duly converted Boyle's early touchdown.

Further tries from Fionn Gibbons, man of the match Jude Postlethwaite (after the TMO had a good look), James Culhane and Ben Carson had the home side more than halfway home at the break, leading 33 to zip.

The second period was more of the same. Ireland never took a foot off the gas wit hthe overrun Scots gasping for air early on.

Matthew Devine picked off their next try in the 53rd minute after a lovely tip and run.

James McCormick added the next try off a line-out, which was converted by substitute Tony Butler - and he would convert two more.

Scotland finally got off the mark when Ross McKnight bulled his way over in the right corner.

But Ireland steamed right back down the pitch and grabbed another score through Josh Hanlon.

And they weren't quite finished, Gibbons would get his second try of the game - his team's ninth - with Butler's conversion putting a final polish on the scoreline.
