Nine to apologise to Collective Mind for articles about Adelaide Crows' Gold Coast camp

The Age newspaper, Channel Nine's Wide World of Sports program and two football journalists will issue apologies and retractions for articles and broadcasts about the Adelaide Crows' controversial 2018 training camp.

High-performance consultancy firm Collective Mind had launched legal action against Nine and journalists Caroline Wilson and Sam McClure over their reporting of the camp on the Gold Coast.

Several Crows players were upset at how the camp was run, and the fallout was part of a terrible year for the team.

It was held just months after the Crows' 2017 AFL grand final loss to Richmond caused lingering tensions within the playing group.

Last year, SafeWork SA cleared the Adelaide Crows of any breach of work health and safety laws after an investigation.

In a statement, Collective Mind said after lengthy legal discussions, the media company and journalists acknowledged the camp was run in good faith and with the players' interests front of mind.

Nine will now retract 13 publications published between 2018 and 2021 and also pay legal costs.

It will run apologies in The Sunday Age and on The Age and Wide World of Sports websites saying the company «apologises and expresses regret if the publications caused hurt and offence» to Collective Mind and its directors, Amon Woulfe and Derek Leddie.

Mr Woulfe and Mr Leddie also called on South Australian Greens MP Tammy Franks to withdraw comments she made in state parliament in July 2020 accusing their company of safety issues stemming from the camp.
