Nigeria’s U-18 girls begin preparation for IHF Trophy Africa Championship

Nigeria’s U-18 girls’ handball team are currently in training camp at Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos preparing for  the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Africa Continental Phase Championship, which begins in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on August 8 and ends on August 19, 2023.

The team, coached by Shittu Adewunmi Agboola, will participate in the competition as Africa Zone Three champions following their victory in the IHF Trophy Africa Zone Three tournament held earlier in the year in Ghana.

A large percentage of the girls that participated in the zonal competition are in the camp. They are led by captain Esther Matthew, who was voted the MVP at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone Three tournament in Ghana, as well as goalkeeper Samuel Precious from Rima Strikers, who was voted the best goalkeeper in the same event and the Babatunde twins from Seasider Babes of Lagos.

The team will play in the U-18 category alongside Guinea, Madagascar and Rwanda at the Centre ivoiro-coréen sports hall in Abidjan.

The winner of the competition will represent Africa in the international phase of the IHF Trophy Championship.
