Nigel Pearson reveals Bristol City injury blow after Barnsley loss

Bristol City suffered a double whammy in midweek, with Nigel Pearson confirming to Bristol Live that Joe Williams’ injury during the Barnsley loss was to his hamstring and called it ‘heartbreaking’ for the player.

The midfielder has managed only nine starts for the Robins in the league this season and that has largely come down to the fact he has spent the vast majority of his time with the club sidelined.

It hasn’t been through a choice of his own or the manager’s either, with the player struggling with a number of injuries. It has meant that his minutes have been limited at Ashton Gate and after finally getting back into contention, it appears he has done more damage to himself against the Tykes.

He was taken off and whilst there has been no confirmation in terms of his injury and the length of time that he might be sidelined yet, the manager has confirmed that he believes it to be a hamstring – and that the latest setback is a ‘heartbreaking’ one for the midfielder.

Not only that, but Bristol City also had to see Alex Scott hobble off too. He is another important player for the team and he ‘rolled his ankle’ according to Pearson and may now too face some time out.

Again, it isn’t clear exactly how serious that injury is or how long he will spend on the sidelines but it is no doubt annoying for Robins’ fans to see two of their players have to go off in a game that already saw them on the losing end of the fixture.

Speaking after the game to Yorkshire Live, Pearson said: “We’ll see how the Williams injury is tomorrow, likewise with Alex who rolled his ankle so that caused him a bit of a problem.”
