Nicolas Raskin on Rangers 'adjustment' that has sparked climbdown from Belgium call up frustrations

Unmoved Nicolas Raskin has shifted his focus on showing his best at Rangers as he shakes off previous frustrations over missing out on call-ups for Belgium.

The 22-year-old has quickly impressed at Ibrox following his January move from Standard Liege as he regains his full fitness after being frozen out of the first-team picture at the Belgian side after failing to agree a new contract, but had impressed for Ronny Deila's side before the fallout sparking some calls for him to included in the Red Devils' World Cup squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In the end he failed to make the 55 man shortlist that could be taken to the tournament in the Middle East. But having been capped up to under-21 level by Belgium the midfielder admits he is happy to put his international future on hold and focus on kick-starting his career in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking to La Capitale, he admitted he believed he should have been included in the long list of players that Roberto Martinez was considering. Raskin said: "Given the way I performed at Standard, with great performances against Anderlecht, Antwerp, Union and Brugge, I was surprised that I was not included in the famous list of 55 for the World Cup."

However, he admits the move to Ibrox has changed his tune since moving to Rangers. He said: "Not being called up for the new coach's first game doesn't bother me at all.

"After the winter transfer window I am in an adjustment phase at Rangers and I will not really be able to show anything until next year. The Devils are not yet for me this season.”
