Nicky Devlin in firm Aberdeen FC warning as defender concedes relegation threat has players futures in doubt

Nicky Devlin has warned everybody in Aberdeen’s under-performing squad they are playing for their Pittodrie futures.

The Dons are currently interviewing for their next manager and Devlin is well aware that necks will be on the line unless they can drag themselves away from a possible relegation fight. Aberdeen travel to Motherwell today looking to end a dreadful run of league form that has seen them fail to win in their last 11 outings – leaving them three points off second bottom.

He said: “Regardless of who you are in that dressing room now you are playing for your future. That comes from being in the position we have put ourselves in. Whether it be boys who want to move on, if you end up in a relegation battle for Aberdeen teams are going to look elsewhere. That is the reality. Regardless if you are under contract for next year, if you are not producing for the club now this season then what’s to say the new manager won’t trust you to do it next year.

“We don’t know anything about who the new manager will be or anything like that. But I’m sure whoever it is will be watching already. So boys are under pressure for the next games to maybe show how good they can be.”

Aberdeen have beaten Rangers and Hearts in the league and drawn with Celtic. They have shown they can match the top teams but have won just six Premiership games all season. “Our league results just haven’t been good enough and that’s our bread and butter,” Devlin said.

“We’ve played 29 games and won just six and that’s obviously not good enough for a club like Aberdeen. It’s not what I imagined when I came to the club but I’m under no illusions I’m part of it. I’ve played as much as anyone this season and I’m included when I say league form hasn’t been good
