Nicky Butt explains why Man City will not match Manchester United treble winners

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt believes that Manchester City will not be able to match the style of the 1999 treble winners even if they match the feat this season.

City have enjoyed an incredible campaign so far and it is now being weighed up whether they can win the treble or not. In June, the Blues will travel to Wembley to face United in the FA Cup final.

By that stage, Pep Guardiola's men may have already won the Premier League and could be in the Champions League final, should they beat Real Madrid in the semis. Only the Reds have managed to achieve the accomplishment in England and they did so thanks to a dramatic victory over Bayern Munich in the Camp Nou.

Treble winner Butt has admitted that City are a great side however, even if they did manage to do it, the Blues would not be able to top United's achievement. "They [City] are an amazing football team," Butt, who is now chief executive of Salford City, told ESPN.

"Whoever wins the treble, I'll be a bit gutted about it, but if they're doing it in the right way, playing the right way, then fair play to them. The project that they've had over the last 15 years, from when they took over, they have changed all the fundamentals in the local area.

"The owners are putting money into the local community, building houses. I'm the biggest Red you'll ever meet, but you can never say it's not an amazing project that they have put together.
