Nick Montgomery gets Hibs grilling as he makes beeline for fuming away fans sick of a Jekyll and Hyde team

Nick Montgomery and his Hibs squad were forced to address angry supporters after slipping to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Ross County in the Highlands.

Despite taking an early lead through Myziane Maolida's early goal, Simon Murray levelled things up minutes later before Jordan White completed the turnaround for the Staggies with just two minutes remaining in the second half. Sections of the Hibs fanbase have already voiced their disgruntlement about the situation under Montgomery, with the Easter Road club missing out on the top six for a second time in the last three years - a setback the Hibees board have described as "totally unacceptable."

And after the full time whistle at the Global Energy Stadium, Montgomery and his players had to contend with frustrated punters in the away end as they applauded fans for making the journey north. He said: “We appreciate the fans’ effort to travel up here, and we went a little bit closer to them at full time to show them that we appreciate the support. I’m not going to tell you stuff that was said because there was obviously frustration. But we know that we should have won the game.

“It wasn’t really a conversation. I understand the fans are frustrated. They travelled, we travelled, so you understand that. At 1-1 it looks like we’re going to win the game, but it turns on a mistake and the frustration comes. It’s a cumulative frustration because we’ve been here too many times this season.
