Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis to play more tournaments together after Australian Open win

If you loved watching Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis’ wild ride to the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open, you’re in luck.

The grand slam champions, dubbed the Special Ks, have confirmed they’ll be pairing up for more tournaments this year after their spectacular success at Melbourne Park.

“I think we’re going to be playing all of the major kind of events this year, barring the French Open and Wimbledon, because Wimbledon is five sets,” Kyrgios told Sunrise on Tuesday.

“But all of the events throughout the year we’re going to really try and go after in doubles.”

The mates entered on a wild card before going all the way in last month’s grand slam, buoyed on by rowdy crowds at each of their matches.

Nick said whipping fans into a frenzy was an “unbelievably smart” tactic that he devised ahead of the tournament.

“From the get-go, I was trying to get the crowd in the palm of my hand and it worked.”

“Me and Thanasi entered the tournament knowing that the crowd wanted to see something a little bit exciting, especially after everything Aussies have gone through the last two years.

“It’s nothing disrespectful to the opponents, we’re in our backyard in Melbourne, it’s exciting. We had to use the crowd, I think if we didn’t we’re not using our advantage.”

Kyrgios said that pairing up with his long-time friend for the slam gave him the motivation he needed to perform on court.

“When it’s something not about me I tend to do it a bit better,” he admitted.

“With me, I might go out to the pub beforehand or I might not compete as hard, but when I’m with Thanasi, he knows that when I’m on the doubles court I’ll be doing everything I can.”
