Nick Kyrgios addresses Rafael Nadal snub after latest Australian Open win

Nick Kyrgios has given his view on Australian broadcaster Channel Nine opting to snub Rafael Nadal’s match for his own.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kyrgios and doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated sixth-seeds Tim Puetz and Michael Venus to reach the semi-finals.

At the same time, 20-time Grand Slam champion Nadal was battling to a gruelling five-set win against Denis Shapovalov to reach his 36th major semi-final appearance.

In Australia, Nadal’s match was being shown on the host broadcaster’s Channel Nine network as the main showpiece, but midway through the first set they opted to show the Aussie pair’s doubles match.

Kyrgios was told about the decision after the match and seemed surprised Nadal had been snubbed by the broadcster in favour of his own match.

‘Nadal is hell of a player. That’s unexpected, I wouldn’t expect that,’ he said.

‘Shapo, Shapovalov and Nadal are two probably of the best players in the world right now. He’s one of the most exciting younger guys as well.

‘But, I mean, I think the level of entertainment I think is different I think.’

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have certainly been putting on a show in their run to the semis so far with the former even giving a racket to a young boy in the crowd after accidentally hitting him when he swiped away a ball.

They’ll now play third seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos and Kyrgios is enjoying every moment of entertainment he can provide for his home fans.
