Niall Ó Ceallacháin replaces Micheál Donoghue as Dublin hurling boss

Niall Ó Ceallacháin is the new Dublin senior hurling manager, appointed on a three-year term.

The Na Fianna man will appoint Donal McGovern (Kilmacud Crokes), Nigel O'Hara (Na Fianna) and David Curtin (Ballyboden St Enda’s) as his selectors.

Last year Ó Ceallacháin guided Na Fianna to the Dublin Senior Hurling championship for the first time, before narrowly losing the Leinster final to O’Loughlin Gaels.

He replaces Michéal Donoghue as Dubs manager.

The names of Shane O’Brien, Joe Fortune and Paul O’Brien had all been mentioned for the role, but it is Ó Ceallacháin who leads the team forward now.

Steeped in Na Fianna hurling, he won a Leinster colleges senior hurling medal in 2001 with the Dublin Colleges team.

A member of the Dublin minor hurling team that year also, he also represented his club at minor, Under-21 and senior level.

Meanwhile John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk have committed to another two years with Limerick following a county board meeting tonight.

Kiely has led the Treaty men to unprecedented success since his appointment in September 2016, guiding the county to five All-Ireland titles in eight seasons, with Kinnerk his right-hand man.
