That frees him up - although he is still likely to be by his father's side when he takes charge of Brazil for two games next month - to make his next career move.

A new name also emerged out of the blue on Saturday evening - that of Dane Brian Priske who previously managed Sparta Prague and Feyenoord.

And Steven Gerrard and Russell Martin are two names that won't go away.

The Samba stars have games against Ecuador and Paraguay coming up next month.

It had been reported that Davide Ancelotti would join his father for those two games but The Athletic say the 35-year-old - and Francesco Mauri who is tipped to be his No. 2 if he gets the Ibrox gig - might not travel with his father to South America.

In recent days, Ancelotti and his team have had several meetings to plan their future in Brazil. They are expected to travel there on Sunday.

However, there were doubts about whether Davide Ancelotti and Francesco Mauri, Ancelotti’s two main assistants, would join them because of their chances of being chosen to be the new Rangers coaching staff.
