Newcastle United supporters rue refereeing decisions following narrow defeat to Chelsea

Newcastle United supporters have taken to social media to offer their views on the narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea. A late stunner from Kai Havertz clinched three points for the Blues, although decisions made by referee David Coote have been placed under scrutiny by swathes of the Magpies fanbase.

Havertz was shown a yellow card in the first-half for an elbow on Newcastle defender Dan Burn, before VAR assessed the decision and deemed it correct. It was not the only decision which drew the ire of supporters, many of whom were displeased when Newcastle were not awarded a penalty after Jacob Murphy went down under close attention from Trevoh Chalobah.

VAR returned to take a look at the incident but did not overturn Coote's decision to not award Newcastle a penalty. Amid grievances about decisions, there were also post-match tweets from supporters praising their side following a gutsy display at Stamford Bridge.
