Newcastle United have a chequered history when it comes to high-profile signings and the current Jamal Lewis predicament serves as an example of this. While on the books of Norwich City, he was viewed as one of the most exciting young left-backs in the country and Liverpool reportedly had a bid rejected for the Northern Ireland international.

Newcastle eventually secured his signature for a fee reported to be worth £15m and few did not consider him a coup for the club. However, the move has not worked out and he was not even included in the 25-man Premier League squad when it was announced back in February.
