Newcastle United 'join Manchester United in race' for Juventus' Adrien Rabiot

Newcastle United are one of the teams interested in pursuing a move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The 27-year-old is not deemed indispensable by the Italian giants and could be allowed to leave the Allianz Stadium this summer.

That is according to transfer insider Nicolo Schira whose track record regarding players in Serie A is strong. He also claims that Manchester United have shown interest in Rabiot by initiating contact with the player’s agent who also happens to be his mother.

A reported asking price of €15m seems more than reasonable for an established international footballer with plenty of top-flight and Champions League experience. He made 45 appearances for Juventus in all competitions throughout the season, starting in 28 of his side’s 38 league games.

By trade, Rabiot is a centre midfielder which perhaps indicates Eddie Howe’s desire to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park. Primarily left-footed, it would also signal the intent to bring another option into the midfield as each of the current crop at St James’ Park are right-footed.

Rabiot’s calibre may well make him a player that is just out of United’s reach at the moment. At the age of 27, he might not be keen in joining a project that will not bear its sweetest fruit for at least a couple of years.

It is also worth remembering that the 26-time France international would struggle to work his way into the Magpies’ starting XI at present. In the current 4-3-3 formation that Howe has used so well, Rabiot would be best suited to play in the left-sided central midfield role, currently held down by Player of the Season Joelinton.
