Newcastle remain in dialogue with Everton over the possible purchase of Anthony Gordon. Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth and his opposite number at Goodison Park Kevin Thelwell, have discussed figures on Gordon and what it might take to secure a deal.

Everton are desperate to keep the 21-year-old, and have already snubbed a big offer from the highly-rated winger from Tottenham Hotspur. Frank Lampard wants Gordon to stay and build on his stellar first full senior campaign.

Newcastle United left-back Jamal Lewis finds himself back in contention ahead of the new season. With less than a week until Newcastle fly out to Austria for a pre-season camp, Lewis looks set to be on the plane after a difficult 2022 so far. Lewis' time on the pitch last season amounted to 353 minutes, but Howe said Lewis would get a chance to impress this summer, and he has stuck to his word so far. The former Norwich defender wasn't on the list of senior players told to report to Little Benton this week to train with the reserves. Lewis had made just 34 appearances for the Magpies since joining from Carrow Road in 2020.
