Newcastle United headlines as Isaac Hayden praises Magpies boss Eddie Howe

Departing midfielder Isaac Hayden will always be fondly remembered on Tyneside. Hayden arrived at St James' Park after Newcastle were relegated to the Championship following the 2015/16 season and helped them earn promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, in recent seasons, the midfielder has seen his minutes cut short due to the arrival of new additions and different managerial preferences.

A knee injury in December meant Hayden missed out on Newcastle's 25-man squad for the second half of the Premier League season.

With the likes of Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes all ahead of him in the pecking order, Hayden has moved to Norwich on loan which will in all likelihood become a permanent deal, ending his Newcastle career.

But despite his six year spell on Tyneside ending in less than ideal fashion, Hayden has praised boss Eddie Howe calling him "the right manager at the right time."

"Although I've left, the manager was very, very good to me. In terms of our relationship, he called me yesterday even though he is on his holidays. We still speak regularly and I don't think it was anything personal from his side," said Hayden.

Paul Merson believes Dan Burn has been a better signing for Newcastle United than Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes.

Burn signed for his boyhood club Newcastle in January from Brighton and immediately shored up the Magpies defence. The towering centre-back was one of Newcastle's players of the season despite only playing the second half of the campaign in black and white.
