Newcastle United evening headlines as SuperMac calls for Saint-Maximin sale and teenage star signs

A round-up of the latest Newcastle United evening headlines on Saturday, May 28.

Former Newcastle United striker Malcolm Macdonald believes the Magpies must sell star winger Allan Saint-Maximin if they want to reach Europe.

There is no doubt that Saint-Maximin is unplayable on his day but there have been occasions this season where his performances have left Newcastle fans wanting.

Speaking in his column for ChronicleLive, Macdonald wrote: "However one of his toughest decisions in my opinion is what to do about Allan Saint-Maximin, the darling of a lot of fans.

"Well let me have my tuppence worth. I would get rid. I would cash in and move on. Saint-Maximin is the most frustrating, annoying player I've ever seen in black and white. He has so much talent, such pace, such trickery yet he flatters to deceive.

"Saint-Maximin reminds me a lot of Adama Traore when he played on the wing for Wolves. All powerful thighs, great speed, and excitement but little end product. Eventually Wolves let him go off abroad to play."

Newcastle United have signed up Irish teenager Alex Murphy from Galway United. The 17-year-old was courted by West Bromwich Albion and Brighton, with the Magpies beating both clubs to his signature.

Murphy has already captained the Republic of Ireland at youth level and is regarded as one of their brightest young stars. Newcastle academy manager Steve Harper said: "We are very pleased to have secured a deal to bring Alex to Newcastle United. He is a very promising young player who has attracted a lot of attention from clubs."
