Newcastle United collect extra millions of pounds on final day of the season

Newcastle United walked away with around £22m in prize money today after finishing 11th in the Premier League table.

The Magpies won 2-1 at Turf Moor against Burnley, thanks to two goals from Callum Wilson. The result relegated Burnley, who go down to the Championship with Watford and Norwich.

The result also meant that Newcastle climbed up the table to finish in 11th place and bag £22m, in what could be a vital addition to the coffers ahead of the transfer window. For comparison, Leeds United, who finished 17th, collect only £8.8m.

That is because each place a team finishes higher up in the Premier League earns them an extra £2.2m. Manchester City, who were crowned champions after a spectacular 3-2 comeback against Aston Villa, pocket £44m.
