Newcastle's next internal recruitment priority after Sean Longstaff deal

A potentially busy summer transfer window could see a host of current Newcastle United squad members moved on.

The Magpies moved to resign midfielder Sean Longstaff, who was out of contract at the end of the season, to a new three-year-deal on Wednesday and have plenty of decisions to make about other squad members. Paul Dummett has already signed a one-year extension, but the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Emil Krafth, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Matt Ritchie are all set to be out of contract next summer.

While Shelvey will most likely stay this summer, the other four could be set to depart St James' this summer as Newcastle look to cash in now. Krafth has performed well in Kieran Trippier's injury absence but Newcastle could certainly look to upgrade on the Swedish right-back if they want to improve their depth.

Equally, Clark and Fernandez should also be moved on. The pair have not featured since around the turn of the year. Ritchie's time on Tyneside also looks set to be up as well. While he did make 18 appearances for the Magpies this season, most of those came during the first half of the campaign.

Additionally, there are a number of other players who Newcastle will need to decide on this summer too. Karl Darlow, Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo, Isaac Hayden and Dwight Gayle's futures are all uncertain. If Newcastle do want to bring in new arrivals this summer, they will need to clear their own books first.

Some could provide cover and improve further under Eddie Howe. Just look at Joelinton's transformation for the proof that coaching matters. Lewis for example was someone Newcastle believed could become a long-term starting left-back at St James' Park. Surely given his age profile and potential ability he merits
