Newcastle rule out Dean Henderson move amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nathan Ake transfer difficulty

Newcastle United are not planning to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United this summer despite constantly being linked with a move for the goalkeeper.

Telegraph Sport understands that while Henderson is admired within St James’ Park there has been no attempt made to sign him and that is not going to change in this window.

Reports linking Henderson with a move to the North East have been widespread for several weeks and there were even claims over the weekend that the goalkeeper had agreed personal terms and that an announcement he had signed was imminent.

However, that has been vehemently denied in the last 24 hours by senior sources at Newcastle and it is extremely unlikely that things will change.

Although Newcastle have discussed signing a goalkeeper in their recruitment meetings this year it is not a top priority as there are other positions they need to fill more urgently.

At the top of manager Eddie Howe’s wishlist, this summer is offensive players, as well as a new centre back.

Newcastle are still locked in talks to sign exciting young French forward, Hugo Ekitike, from Reims but fans have been warned there is “still a lot of work to do” before a deal is done. Although a fee has been agreed with his club, there is an issue with agent fees and a suspicion that someone is still trying to sell the teenager to other clubs in Europe.

The deal with Newcastle, though, remains in place and has not collapsed. A successful conclusion remains likely within the next fortnight.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport last month, Newcastle are also hoping to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin but things have not advanced as the Merseyside club side have said they do not want to sell the 25-year-old to a direct rival.
