Newcastle now in three-horse race to sign 'stratospheric' warrior this summer - journalist
Newcastle United are reportedly now in a three-horse race to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer.
After missing out on Hugo Ekitike on Transfer Deadline Day last month, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium will want to sign a top striker in the summer, assuming that the Magpies can avoid relegation from the Premier League.
They have recently been linked with a move for Nice forward Amine Gouiri, but they could be aiming even bigger if they stay in the top flight.
As per journalist Luca Cerchione (via Area Napoli), Newcastle are now in a three-horse race with both Manchester United and Real Madrid to sign Osimhen this summer.
However, the Nigerian would only join Eddie Howe’s side if they manage to stay up at the end of the season.
At 23 years of age, Osimhen has so much potential and could well become one of the elite strikers in European football over the next few years.
Recently described as ‘stratospheric‘ by his manager Luciano Spalletti, who has also called him a ‘warrior‘, the Nigeria international is regarded very highly at Napoli, where he already has 11 goals and four assists in all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).
It will no doubt take a sizeable fee to prise him away from the Serie A club, but Newcastle’s mega-rich owners should have no problems in that regard, so it’s a move which the Magpies need to try and get done if at all possible.
