Newcastle need 'huge offer' to sign £60k-a-week star at St James' Park

Newcastle United signing Leeds United winger Jack Harrison is “almost impossible”, believes Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Tyneside club have had two bids for the 25-year-old turned down this summer, and Downie has told GIVEMESPORT that it is going to take huge money for his current employers to consider a sale.

Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that Leeds had rejected a second bid from Newcastle for Harrison.

According to the sports website, the Magpies’ offer was worth over £20m, which was clearly not enough in the eyes of their Premier League rivals.

While Newcastle and PIF have not gone any higher since then, they have still shown this summer that they are not afraid to spend money.

The club, of course, recently completed the signing of Alexander Isak, who cost them a record £60m following his move from Real Sociedad.

With Newcastle unwilling to go too far above the £20m mark, Downie feels the Magpies signing Harrison was always going to be practically impossible.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: “I could see him in the team and I think he’s someone that they’ve liked for a long time. It’s my understanding that the first bid went in earlier on in the window and it was 14 plus five. I think it was an offer of 19 million in total. The second one, as I understand, was a little bit more than that but still nowhere near what Leeds are looking for.

“I think that deal was almost impossible to do because they want to keep hold of him and he’s obviously made a great start to the season with Leeds. Newcastle would need to go in with huge numbers to try and twist their arm on that one.”
