Newcastle may not sign Keylor Navas

Newcastle United aren’t short of options between the sticks with Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie at their disposal, but the Magpies could put their lucrative resources into signing an excellent shot-stopper that outperforms his expected goals.

Fichajes say one goalkeeper on their radar is Keylor Navas. The 35-year-old has an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain as Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to be first-choice next season after sharing appearances this campaign.

Navas won’t settle for a supporting role at the Parc Des Princes, so he might be open to a departure. And while Newcastle are the obvious link to make following their takeover by Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, it’s hard to see Navas making the switch.

The Costa Rica international already earns £117k-a-week at PSG, so Newcastle won’t want an ageing goalkeeper breaking the wage structure. Navas made 162 appearances for Real Madrid (2014 – 2019), winning three Champions League trophies, and he made 103 appearances for PSG (2019 – present), winning a league title. So would he join a side not challenging for major honours?

There are younger and more cost-effective options for Newcastle, so Navas might not be the one.
