Newcastle "considering" move for £20m striker, Howe prefers him over another target - journalist

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is considering Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis and prefers him over Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, claims CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

It is currently being reported that the Tyneside club have the opportunity to sign both players, though it seems Howe is more keen on the former.

As per ChronicleLive, Dennis and Cornet have both been offered to Newcastle following Watford and Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

Regarding how much each player could cost, last month, the Daily Mail claimed that Watford value Dennis at around £20m. As for Cornet, it is believed that he has a £17.5m relegation release clause in his contract.

Newcastle are enjoying a productive transfer window, bringing in Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett.

However, they are yet to recruit a new attacker, so it is no surprise to hear that they are considering moves for Dennis and Cornet.

Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle are considering both Dennis and Cornet but Howe prefers the former.

Speaking to GMS, the CBS reporter said: “Newcastle are also considering Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet and Emmanuel Dennis. Dennis seems to be Howe’s preference between the two and Watford are very open to a sale.”

Looking at their stats from last season, there was not much between the two. Dennis scored 10 goals in 33 Premier League outings, while Cornet registered nine in 26.

The Watford and Burnley stars are also both very versatile, able to play up front or on the left flank. During his time at Lyon, Cornet played at left-back, too, showing the extent of his versatility.

Given that, and the fact that they are likely to cost around the same price this summer, Howe can be pleased with either. It seems, though, that Dennis is the one
