New three-year contract for Mack Hansen at Connacht

Mack Hansen has signed a new long-term contract with Connacht, to keep him at the Sportsground until the summer of 2025.

The 24-year-old has been the signing of the season in Irish rugby, scoring six tries in 14 games for the province, as well as winning four Irish caps since his arrival from the Brumbies last summer.

And while he still had a year left to run on his initial contract at the Sportsground, head coach Andy Friend has warded off potential suitors early by extending Hansen's contract by a further three seasons.

"Committing my future at Connacht was a no-brainer," Hansen said.

"Ever since I arrived in Ireland I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and my teammates who have made me feel right at home. Personally I'm pleased with how my first season has gone and now I want to do everything I can to help the club achieve success for the next three seasons.

The Australia-born winger proved an instant hit in Galway, scoring an incredible individual try on his home debut against the Bulls, and his popularity has grown further as the season progressed.

Having been called up to train with Ireland in November, he was brought back in for the Six Nations, earning a player of the match award on his Irish debut against Wales, before scoring against France in Paris a week later.

"Mack has made an immeasurable impact on the club since his arrival," Connacht head coach Friend said.

"He's a popular character with the players, staff and supporters and it’s been really pleasing to see him take to rugby in Ireland like a duck to water.

"For him to commit the next three years of his career to Connacht when he’ll only get better is a really strong show of faith in where we’re going as a club on and off the field, and I look forward to
