New Sligo hurling manager Stephen Sheil joined by Bernard Jackman on coaching team
Stephen Sheil has been appointed new manager of the Sligo hurling manager, with former Ireland rugby international Bernard Jackman as part of the coaching ticket.
Sheil, a former Carlow inter-county hurler and manager of the Westmeath minors, succeeds Padriag Mannion in the role, who stepped down in August after three relatively successful years in the post.
Jackman has been installed as 'preparation manager', tasked with assisting their team with mental and physical preparation.
Also joining the management team is coach Seamus Qualter, a former Turloughmore and Galway hurler, who previously managed Westmeath and the Ireland shinty/hurling team.
Ex-Tipperary intermediate and Mayo player Donal O'Brien is also part of the set-up.
Sligo were relegated back to Division 3A in their most recent league campaign but gave a stronger showing in their Christy Ring campaign, beat Mayo, Tyrone and London to finish third, just missing out on a final spot.
