Impressive young manager Harry Hudson is pleased to be back at Step 4 with Sevenoaks Town and understands exactly what his immediate task is, insisting, “we have to keep the club in the division and that’s the priority”.
The 32-year-old, now in his fifth season of management after spells at Croydon, Whyteleafe and Glebe, is delighted to be appointed in the role after long-standing boss Micky Collins’ departure.
And he will assess the squad give the present players a chance before deciding on whether reinforcements/replacements need to be recruited.
Oaks are third from bottom of the Isthmian League South East Division having won just seven league matches in 28.
They are one point clear of the bottom two automatic relegation places but are in the play-off slot, the team finishing 18th in the 20-team league due to fight for their status with a Step 5 club in May.
They are four points adrift of 17th-placed Whitehawk having played a game more, with ten remaining.
“We have got to keep them in the division, that’s the most important, immediate task,” said Hudson. “Then if, and when, hopefully we can secure that status, we can start to look forward.
“At the moment it’s very much all hands on deck to keep the club at Step 4. I want to manage at least at that level.
“And the plan that Sevenoaks have, and the club they are, they should be at least a Step 4 club.
“That has to be the priority to try and keep them at that level.”
Hudson has huge respect for the work Collins did with Oaks across an eight-year spell in which he put the club on the map, with promotion into the Isthmian League for the first time in their history as well as best-ever runs in the FA Cup, FA Vase and FA Trophy, while also winning the SCEFL Challenge Cup.
