Former West Brom midfielder joins Championship rivals on a free transfer

Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Robert Snodgrass has joined fellow Championship side Luton Town until the end of the season.

Snodgrass left Albion by mutual consent last month after just 12 months at the Hawthorns.

It's understood that a disagreement with then-head coach Valerien Ismael led to the veteran midfielder being frozen out in November.

The former Scotland international, after featuring in one of the first 12 matches of the season, started four out of the next five matches across late October and November.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes in the last four of that streak, Snodgrass did not make another matchday squad.

Snodgrass described the final period in the West Midlands as "a very difficult few months" and is now relieved to be back involved in the game again.

Speaking after signing, Snodgrass also revealed Luton were not the only club interested.

"It’s good to get things finalised," Snodgrass told the club's website. "I had a few options that I wanted to take my time and make sure that I was making my decision based on who was wanting me, and the right club for my traits and my qualities.

“The defining factor was the manager – it was all down to Nathan Jones. He went above and beyond to try and get me in through the door, which is always nice and especially at this stage of my career.

“It’s well-documented that I’ve not played in the last two months, so for him to show how much he wanted me in and be part of what he is building here, that was the crucial factor for me."

Earlier this month, it was reported that "one or two Championship clubs" as well as Scottish Premiership trio Aberdeen, Dundee and Hibernian were all interested in the free agent.
