New Queen of the South signing wants to achieve big things at Palmerston

New Queen of the South signing Jordan Houston wants to achieve big things at Palmerston.

The 23-year-old right back became Marvin Bartley’s latest summer signing after being released by Ayr United last week.

He said: “I’m looking forward to playing for Queen of the South and hope to achieve big things in the season ahead.

“I’ve played in front of the fans before in my time at Ayr and I know what passion they have. There’s a real excitement around Palmerston now and I was keen to come as soon as I heard the gaffer was interested.”

Houston played against Queens in a League Cup group stage match last season which Queens won 3-0.

The defender signed for Ayr from Rangers in 2019 after progressing through the youth ranks at Ibrox and made 91 appearances in his four seasons at Somerset Park.

Marvin Bartley wasted no time in snapping up the right back, who was one of six players released by Ayr last Wednesday.

Bartley, who was on his pro licence this week, said: “Jordan’s a player I’ve watched for a while and I moved quickly to speak to him when I heard he was leaving Ayr United. It didn’t take long to sort out a deal and I’m delighted to welcome him on board.”

Houston has signed a one-year deal and will be registered when the window opens next week.

He joins Harry Cochrane, Gordon Botterill, Kieran McKechnie, Murray Johnson, Jack Brydon, Lewis Gibson, Iain Wilson and Paul McKay at the club for next season. Youngsters Jay Burns and Ben Johnstone are also contracted until 2024.
