New Queen of the South signing says he has "unfinished business" at Palmerston

Queen of the South’s new signing Iain Wilson has insisted he has “unfinished business” at Palmerston.

The midfielder had two loan spells at the Doonhamers while he was with Kilmarnock, but one was curtailed by Covid-19.

He has now signed a two-year deal with Queens and said: “I really enjoyed my previous spells at Queens, although the last one ended early due to Covid.

“I felt I had unfinished business at Palmerston. I had a great rapport with the fans and it’s a club I really felt at home with.

“I’m fit and raring to get started at pre-season. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the squad, and of course I was with Gavin (Reilly) last season (at Morton).

“And there are still plenty of familiar faces at the club too.”

Wilson, nicknamed Shug, was a fans favourite with his robust style and is certain to beef up the midfield for Queens’ push for League One promotion.

He was with Dunfermline last season after leaving Killie, but left and played the second half of the season at Morton where he teamed up with Gavin Reilly who has also returned to Palmerston.

Wilson has also been capped by Scotland at every youth level from under-17s to under-21s and his box-to-box style will boost the side in both defence and attack.

Manager Wullie Gibson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get big Shug on board.

“I know he had offers in the Championship and other League One sides, but he loved his time at Queens previously and is desperate to help the club back to the Championship.

“We know the quality he brings. This is a big boost for the squad.”

Wilson’s signing late last week completed a hectic few days for Gibson who also landed three players in one day.

He recruited keeper Max Currie, Rico Quitongo and Stuart Morrison
