New Queen of the South signing hopes end of season form is good omen

New Queen of the South signing Daniel Church hopes the club’s end of season form is a good omen for next season.

The 22-year-old has become the latest player to join the Palmerston club on a two-year deal after spending two seasons with Alloa Athletic.

Queens will pay Alloa compensation for the defender.

Daniel said: “After speaking to the gaffer about the way he works and the style of football he wants to impose, it was clear in my head this is where I wanted to be.

“I’m familiar with some of the boys and the stadium having played against them in the league last season so I’m sure it’ll be an easy transition.

“The team finished on exceptional form last time and if we can pick up from that this campaign, I’m sure we’ll be successful.”

Church spent 13 years in Celtic’s youth set up before a move to Blackburn Rovers was scrapped because of Covid-19. As a result he signed with Dumbarton before joining the Wasps. He played 35 games in all competitions for Alloa last season and recorded 10 clean sheets.

The move was rumoured a few weeks ago but manager Marvin Bartley downplayed it at the time. He welcomed the defender and said his squad is now starting to take shape.

After the signing he said: “Daniel is someone who has impressed me.

“He is young but has good experience of League One. He is a strong defender but also likes to get forward and showed that with goals and assists last year.

“I believe his quality will enhance the squad that is starting to come together.”

Youngster Ross Irving has also agreed a new one-year deal with the club. He featured more under Bartley and scored his first goal for the club in the SPFL Trust Trophy semi final loss at Hamilton.

Bartley also added keeper Charlie Cowie,
