New Manchester United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe's net worth compared to rival Premier League owners

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has finally had his £1.3billion minority stake in Manchester United ratified by the Premier League and the FA, making him one of the country’s richest football club owners.

The investment by INEOS has passed the required regulatory tests after Ratcliffe’s arrival was confirmed by the Glazers on Christmas Eve. He will now officially takes sporting control of the club, having already made steps towards the future.

The appointment of Omar Berrada as CEO is seen as an INEOS acquisition despite technically being a Glazers hire. Ratcliffe was briefed with January transfer dealings and has in the meantime met with journalists and supporters’ groups, also holding numerous meetings with club personnel.

The 71-year-old is thought to be considering development plans for United’s training complex and Old Trafford, both of which could be either moved or rebuilt. He has pledged to spend $300m on infrastructure in 2024.

Right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford is currently conducting an extensive audit of the club and may recommend further boardroom changes. INEOS is targeting Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth for the role of sporting director with John Murtough’s future in the position in the balance.

Ratcliffe is said to be aiming to address the structure of the club ahead of the summer transfer window. How much money Ratcliffe will decide to feed directly into recruitment at United is unclear but he is expected to make a statement of intent in his debut market.
