New kids on the block St Malachy's Old Boys make a name for themselves at the Foyle Cup

They might be St Malachy's Old Boys but this North Belfast club are the new kids on the block in football terms – and they're already celebrating a landmark tournament performance.

Children from the 2010 squad recently put in the underdog display of their young lives at the recent Folye Cup where they went up against the likes of more seasoned clubs such as Coleraine FC, St Oliver Plunkett and Scotland's Hamilton Academical.

The Antrim Road side finished a highly respected fourth out of 56 teams in Derry – an impressive feat for a youth set-up only in existence since 2015 and who compete in the South Belfast Youth League.

Coach Sean Davey, along with Mark Reynolds and Brian McLarnon and cheered on by an army of parents and extended families, told of their immense pride at just how far the club has come in such a short space of time.

He said: "The family ethos the club has been built on runs through the veins of these kids and will surely be infectious going forward.

"Reaching the last four in our first attempt is something the whole club can be rightly proud of."
